Tomatoes
| These are "Early Girl" tomatoes, it's my favorite variety and it is the only variety I grew this year. The first picture was taken in May of 2000 two days before I planted them in the garden. I raised them from seed under a grow light in my bathroom. The second picture was taken in August of 2000. These are the same plants but now they are in the garden. As you can see they have grown quite a bit. The third picture is a close up of the unripe fruit in August. Every year about this time a race is held in my garden. It's ripe tomatoes against the Late Blight. Late Blight won the last three years in a row. The summers were cool and I watered them from over head. This year the summer has been cool too but I am watering my tomatoes at the ground level. Tomatoes do not like having wet leaves. If we have a good indian summer most of these will get ripe. I have already picked about 6 ripe tomatoes. |
